ATM robbery accused in court

The watchman, Teddy Hosein, appeared in court for the May 20 robbery with Damien Seebaran, who was arrested in Tobago and brought by helicopter to Trinidad on Monday.

Hosein, of San Francique Road, Penal, was also charged with making a false report to the police about being kidnapped on the day of the incident. Hosein and Seebaran, 26, of Concorde Road in Tobago, appeared before Fourth Court Magistrate Andrew Damani. Seebaran was arrested by police in a sting operation and brought back to Trinidad via a Special Anti-Crime Unit helicopter which landed at Skinner Park, San Fernando on Monday. Both accused were charged by Cpl Lester McIntosh of the San Fernando CID.

Hosein and Seebaran pleaded not guilty to the charge of breaking into a Scotiabank branch and stealing $310,220 and five bins valued US$7,500, the property of the bank, on May 20.

Hosein also pleaded not guilty to filing a false report to Cpl Mc Intosh on May 20, in which he claimed that he was kidnapped and robbed of his keys.

Court prosecutor Insp Robin Rampersad objected to bail on the grounds that police needed to trace the men to determine if they have previous convictions or pending cases in court.

The magistrate upheld the police prosecutor’s objection and remanded both men into custody until tomorrow.
