Teacher fined $20,000 for ganja
Williams pleaded guilty to the charge. Yesterday, her lawyer Desmond Allum SC, made a plea for leniency. He said Williams was the mother of five children, the eldest being 25 and studying in the United States.
He said Williams was a teacher at Corpus Christi College in Diego Martin at the time of the offence. Allum said his client was suspended and she remained unemployed for three years. She was now teaching business at Bishop’s Centenary College. Allum said Williams did a foolish thing by trying to help out a friend. He produced testimonials on her behalf, including one from the principal of Corpus Christi College, Sister Petronella Joseph.
Lee Kim then fined Williams $20,000 or three years in jail. She was ordered to pay $5,000 by tomorrow.
