Girl Guides birthday this weekend
Not many organisations can claim to be 92 years old with a promise of another 100 years to come. But GGATT can safely make that boast, and it is doing it in style.
For its 92nd anniversary, GGATT will take over the Cascadia Hotel for a grand tea party, fashion show, dutch auction and raffle on Sunday.
It is about more than just selling cookies and wearing badges, however, as the association is a voluntary, non-governmental body which provides basic training for girls and young women, developing and empowering them to become responsible citizens. The birthday celebration will be used to raise funds for a number of youth programmes.
The event kicks off at 3 pm and promises to deliver more than the usual fund-raiser, as big names like Claudia Pegus, Heather Jones, Zadd and Eastman Designs will contribute their talent to the event.
The fashion show is being coordinated by Jacqueline Koon How, director of House of Jacquie.
The event has garnered support from the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, HCL, Guardian Holdings, Republic Bank, Hasely Crawford, National Flour Mills, Script-J and JG Design Caribbean.
Guests will be treated to performances by Raymond Edwards and the Caribbean School of Dance, under the direction of Nancy Herrera. Door prizes and auction items contributed by Fog Charity Promotion, Happi Products, Hilton Trinidad, Hydrofit WI, Cascadia and artists Detta Buch and Adrian Camp-Campins.
Tickets are available at the Girl Guides headquarters at 8 Rust Street, St Clair.
