Morvant teen gunned down

Investigators believe the murder may be linked to the recent murder of tyre shop owner Garlond Garraway at a spring in the area last Thursday.

Garraway, 42, was with his four-year-old son Zion at a spring in Morvant when he was shot dead. The businessman had complained about threats to his life.

Investigators told Newsday that Mcoy was the main suspect in Garraway’s killing.

An eyewitness identified Mcoy, an electrical plumber, as the person who shot Garraway dead.

When Newsday visited the murder scene yesterday, relatives refused to be interviewed, saying only that they will ensure that justice prevails.

The dead teen’s mother, Marsha Mcoy, was too distraught to be interviewed.

Marsha told investigators she was asleep at her home at about 1.30 am yesterday when she heard gunshots. She said she then saw her son’s body on the road. She contacted the Morvant police who went to the scene with a district medical officer.

The body was viewed and ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre.

Neighbours of the dead teenager yesterday said they expect more killings within the next few days. Senior police officers yesterday said they have stepped up patrols in Mon Repos and surrounding areas in order to curtail the spate of lawlessness. Mcoy is the country’s 170th murder victim.
