5 Ah Side pan final tonight

Tonight the finals of the 5 Ah Side Steelpan competition plus WITCO Desperadoes and Neal & Massy Trinidad All Stars in concert will be the main events at the St James Amphi–theatre, Western Main Road, from 7 pm.

Ten finalists of the 5 Ah Side competition will perform any of Kitchener’s songs for five minutes. The objective is to play the tune primarily in calypso tempo, but other rhythms may be utilised. Players are expected to use dress and dance to enhance their presentation and any innovative gimmicks that they can come up with. The accent is to entertain the audience and evoke crowd appeal.

The finalists are Merrytones Shotters, “St Thomas Gyul;” Pan Plus, “Ting Tang;” Sweet Music, “Water Cry;” Mello Vibes, “Iron Man;” Family and Friends, “Pan In A Minor;” Petrotrin Siparia Deltones, “Iron Man,” Starlift Junior Band, “Love In the Cemetery;” St James Tripolians, “Love In the Cemetery;” Northlus, “Rain-orama,” Pan Family, “Pan In Harmony.”

Judges are Chantal Esdelle, Vanessa Headley, Derek Nurse, Duvonne Stewart and Roy Edwards.

Participants will share $17,000 in prizes sponsored by NP and National Flour Mills. The winner will receive $5,000.

Pan Explosion is day six on the WeBeat calendar. Advance tickets are priced at $50 and $60 at the door.
