‘Warriors’ not changing style for Swedes
Beenhakker was speaking at a media briefing in Rotenburg, Germany, following a practice session at the team’s training venue yesterday.
“They play very organised and they are totally focussed (on) bringing the ball up front to their strikers,” said the Dutch-born coach. “They have lots of talent up front.”
But Beenhakker stated that Trinidad and Tobago, the World Cup debutants, will not alter their playing style to suit the Swedes.
“We want to play the way we play, we wouldn’t change much,” said Beenhakker.
The TT coach also revealed that goalkeeper Kelvin Jack has recovered from a strained calf muscle and will be fit for Saturday’s contest.
Beenhakker also noted that captain Dwight Yorke will play in an attacking midfield role during the tournament, even though the 34-year-old featured as a defensive midfielder in recent TT warm-up matches.
And the former Dutch, Saudi Arabia and Real Madrid coach also spoke about the mental and physical readiness of the team.
“I had many players who came in the team after very tough seasons and they needed some rest,” he revealed. “We have a team who would play with a lot of courage and a lot of pride.
“In football, you always have some surprises,” Beenhakker added.
