ANTON COOPER CASE:

Rhonda Kernahan, sister of slain prison inmate Anton Cooper, said the description she had given to the press about Cooper’s “disoriented” appearance in the prisoners’ dock was based on information she had gotten from her mother.

In an interview with the press, Kernahan had given a graphic description of her brother’s behaviour as he had stood before the magistrate to answer charges of assault and malicious damage. Cooper, 24, of Indian Walk, Moruga was found dead in his cell at Remand Yard, Golden Grove Prison, Arouca, on June 26, 2001, less than 24 hours after he had been remanded for the offences.

Two prison officers, Devindra Ramdial, 36, and Ansen Griffith, 28, are before Justice Mark Mohammed at the Port-of-Spain Second Criminal Court charged with murdering Cooper on a date unknown, between June 25 and 27, 2001. The duo are being represented by attorneys Gilbert Peterson SC and Pamela Elder SC. State attorneys Israel Khan SC, Kathy-Ann Waterman-Latchoo and Tricia Hudlin are prosecuting.
