Shak Attack edge ‘Flour’

The game, played at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex on Wednesday night saw two of the most competitive teams in local basketball, both in a must-win situation to stay within the top half of the eight-team standings. At the end of the first half, they played themselves into a standstill with the score deadlocked 42-42.

National Flour Mills were off to a first-quarter 18-14 lead, but Shak Attack picked up the pace to level the scores at the half.

And point guard Kenneth Roberts and forwards Terrance Mayers and Christian found the hoop regularly for a seven point third period lead - 67-60. But NFM would not go down without a fight, and led by Shorn Edwards, Jamaal Patrick and Andy Best they kept within range. The trio brought their team within four points of drawing level in the final quarter, but the trio of Roberts, Christian and Mayers proved decisive.

Mayers in particular scored five of his team’s points in the final period to guide his team to victory.

He finished with 17 points.

In a Second Division game Straker Nets destroyed Drillers 71-55, with Jason Cobbler and Kerwin Pope scoring 12 points apiece.

Steve Williams led Drillers with 17 points and Jason Julien added 14.

On Monday Trinidad and Tobago Elite have a date with Drillers in the First Division from 8 pm.

Earlier, Caledonia Clippers will play Supligen Crusaders in the Second Division from 6.15 pm.
