Guard shot dead at home

A 55-YEAR-OLD security guard of Upper Belle Eau Road in Belmont, was shot dead at his home early yesterday morning bringing the country’s murder toll for the year so far, to 178.
Police reports revealed that at at about 1 am, Lester Dupont was asleep when he was shot several times by a gunman. A relative of Dupont, on hearing the gunshots, ran to his room and found him lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
A report was made to the police and when officers arrived on the scene, Dupont was already dead. Investigators told Newsday they believe Dupont was killed because he witnessed an attempted murder. Relatives of the dead man described Dupont as a God-fearing person who troubled no one. No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
And in an unrelated incident, a Beetham Estate man who was well known to the police, was shot dead in front of his home on Sunday night. According to police reports, at at about 8.30 pm, Terrance Scotland was standing outside his home at Phase III, when he was confronted by a gunman who shot him three times in the chest. As he slumped to the ground, the killer fled the scene.
Besson Street police and officers from the Homicide Bureau visited the scene along with the District Medical Officer.
