World Cup at City Gate

PTSC chief executive officer (CEO) Edison Isaac told Newsday yesterday the twelve 42-inch monitors installed within the terminal are on a test run and are being used to broadcast World Cup matches.

The service may be extended he said after the tournament when the monitors would be used to display bus schedules, showcase aspects of Trinidad and Tobago’s culture and give the public a basic introduction to Spanish. Isaac stated the sets were sponsored and installed by Digital Media Limited.

Abraham Hadid, Digital Media’s CEO, explained the service was based on “real time” messaging, an advanced technology used at transport terminals in the US and Europe. The cost of the monitors and installation was not disclosed, however. This service, he explained, will be expanded to the port and on the ferries to Tobago. The service is to be launched on July 11 at Crowne Plaza hotel.
