Get rid of all awards
We have political forces threatening to divide us. The ghost of Guyana, Lebanon, Rwanda, Kosovo threatens us but we have been building one united nation. Why should we let National Awards seriously divide us?
Our Warriors have filled our nation with the joy of red oneness. Will division and distrust take-over because religious loyalties enter where they have no business? Let’s have one nation, one set of national awards!
We should let religion rule where it really matters. Christians, I’m one, should remember Christ’s constant command repeated at his last farewell: “Love one another,” and he meant, “Love everybody, regardless.” When we succeed in doing this, crime, violence and poverty will all drown and disappear in the sea called “Caring for one another.”
Are others wrong in seeking a change from the Trinity Cross? How would you, a Christian, feel if our highest national award had the name or symbol of another religion? Or do you recommend that we have ten sets of awards, one each for Christians, Hindus, Muslims, Orisha, Buddhists, New Age, Humanists, Atheists, etc? Isn’t it better to have one set of non-controversial awards that will help to unite us?
Similarly, all our Representatives in Parliament have one job — to manage together the affairs of the nation; one group chiefly plans, proposes and implements and the other scrutinises and comments. We need to see them all working for all of us, regardless.
Party symbols destroy the sense of one body working for our one country. Let’s have no Party ties or other Party symbols in National business! Our boast is: “Trini to the bone!” We are all, I hope, one Trini, one bone. Why should we mash it up?
