Cocktails for MEDEF Business at the French Embassy
MEDEF International is the international counterpart of MEDEF supporting, facilitating and promoting trade, investment and industrial cooperation through partnerships at a worldwide level.
This information accompanied an invitation to a cocktail given by H E the French Ambassador, and Madame Causeret at their official Residence on Mary Street, St Clair, on Thursday, June 8.
Business was, of course, the mainstay of conversation. Going from group to group (and searching for remnants of French lessons lingering in the furthest recesses of one’s brain) topics of conversation ranged from surge protectors to waste management to water, to banking, oil and gas — naturally — among many others.
Newsday was intrigued to hear of a plan to split WASA into disparate parts, one company (authority) for winning water, another for water treatment a third for distribution. We did not have time to pursue the subject of water rates.
Another project that intrigued Newsday was the possibility of setting up a plant to recycle old car tyres in Trinidad, which, considering the number of vehicles on our roads and the importation of foreign used tyres, should be of interest to SWMCOL and the EMA.
Photographs show members of MEDEF relaxing after meetings with the Prime Minister, Environment Minister the Honourable Pennelope Beckles, Trade Minister Ken Valley and other Cabinet Ministers, and continuing discussions with local businessmen over cocktails.
