Morgan Heritage brings ‘vibes of peace’

WHEN MEMBERS of the legendary musical family band Morgan Heritage take the stage at the Jean Pierre Complex tonight they hope to unite TT and bring messages of peace and love with such hits as “Don’t Haffi Dread,” “What We Need Is Love” and “Let’s Make Up.”

Speaking during a media briefing at the Jean Pierre Complex yesterday, vocalist Peter Morgan, said conscious music performed by Morgan Heritage has a better chance of surviving than others that are simply ‘gimmicks’.

“If you stand for nothing, you will fall to nothing,” said Peter.

“So when you have people like Elephant Man who deals with gimmicks . . . when he can’t find a new dance, what will happen to him?

“Consciousness always outlasts the others because when you’re young all you want to do is party but when you reach about 28 years or older and you start having kids, you become more conscious.”

The Morgan Family expressed their delight at the fact that TT is now producing reggae stars and expressed an eagerness to collaborate with them.

“It’s an honour to see other islands doing reggae music. Now we can’t wait for other islands to pick up with the soca.

“It’s really nice to see that there are artistes from other islands. Any time we see TT reggae artists ready to collaborate with us, we are willing!”

Peter said in the interest of musical ministry Morgan Heritage preferred to arrive for a performance at least three days in advance since this gave them the opportunity to reach out to the people. “It’s not just about singing but about going out and talking with the people. We’re not untouchable.”
