Children witness mom’s murder
The killer then fled the scene but was arrested at Mayo Village at about 8 am yesterday. An autopsy will be carried out on Mohammed at the Forensic Sciences Centre today.
According to police reports, Mohammed accused the killer of being violent towards her and reported him to the police. She got a restraining order against the man, but late last year, he reportedly broke the restraining order and was imprisoned for a month before being released on bail.
Mohammed severed all ties with the man and moved from the Tortuga Village to Edinburgh Village, Chaguanas where she rented an apartment. However, police said, the man tracked Mohammed down and insisted that they reconcile. She refused.
On Monday, the man visited Mohammed and she asked him to leave. When he refused to do so, a heated argument ensued with the man reportedly stabbing Mohammed twice in her chest in the presence of her children before fleeing the scene.
The two children were reportedly left traumatised by their mother’s violent death and had to be taken into the custody of eyewitnesses. They are now staying at the home of a relative of the dead woman.
Homicide investigators told Newsday yesterday that following today’s autopsy, they will present the case file and autopsy result to Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Geoffrey Henderson for further instructions. Investigations are continuing.
