3 injured in highway accident

THREE persons were injured when the driver of a car they were in, crashed into a trailer truck along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway near Boundary Road, San Juan on Thursday night.

According to police reports, at about 8 pm Shastri Lallbeharry, 29, was driving a car in company with Rajesh Ramlal and Kareem London and was proceeding west along the highway when Lallbeharry attempted to overtake a trailer truck travelling in the same direction.

He lost control of the vehicle which crashed into the trailer truck. The passengers sustained injuries to the head, arms and legs.

San Juan firemen along with officers of the Barataria Police Station visited the scene and removed the injured persons from the mangled car. Ramlal and London were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope while Lallbeharry was taken to Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

Officers of the Highway Patrol also arrived on the scene and both vehicles were moved to the median of the highway to allow the smooth flow of traffic. Investigations are continuing.
