Brazil parents protest cell tower

Secretary of the PTA, Amoy Boodoo said the cell tower was too close to the school compound and that it is considered very dangerous to the children’s health.

“We sent out many letters to complain about the tower and we were told that it would be relocated,” Boodoo told Newsday.

Boodoo said that she received another call from TSTT requesting permission to re-commission the tower.

“We do not want the tower there, and they should find another location,” Boodoo stated.

Vice Chairman of ARFECT (Association of Radio Frequency Emission Control in Trinidad and Tobago), Peter Permell, said that they will intervene on behalf of the PTA.

“The PTA has requested assistance in the latest controversy between the PTA and TSTT,” Permell said.

There are 300 children enrolled in the school.

“There is evidence that the frequency used, children will absorb more radiation per kilogramme of body weight from an external electro-magnetic source that is from the Stewart report 2000 which can be found on the Internet,” Permell explained.

He said that different research on school children living near cell sites abroad concluded that motor function, memory and attention differed between the exposed and controlled groups.

TSTT officials were unavailable for comment.
