Regional boxers on show at Chag
The tournament starts in earnest today and ends on Sunday at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre, Western Main Road, Chaguaramas.
Yesterday the opening ceremony was staged with a feature address from the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Roger Boynes and James Marshall, president of the Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association (CABA).
Also adressing the opening was Cecil Forde, vice-president of the Trinidad and Tobago Amateur Bosing Association.
The championships will be staged in honour of two of TT’s former top amateur boxers— Kirk Sinnette and Kertson Manswell, both of whom are currently professionals with unbeaten records.
Former world middleweight boxing champions, Maurice Hope and Emile Griffith are here for the championships which are hosted jointly by TT Amateur Boxing Association and the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs. The overseas teams are Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Jamaica, Martinique, St Lucia, St Maarten, St Vincent and The Grenadines, USVI.
The TT team comprises 32 boxers competing in all classes — Senior, Novice, Under 19 and Female.

SENIORS: Glenroy Anderson, Denzil Salazar, Andrew Fermin, Aaron Hassette, Aaron Prince, Christopher de Freitas, Jamaal Guy, Aaron Cumberbatch, box-off between Chad Brathwaite/Kirt Blackwill.
NOVICES: Kerron Samuel, Travis Polo, Al Fassi Ali, Randy Whitlock, Jamaal Guy, Michael Pierre, Berriel Dalrymple, Kern Joachim
UNDER 19: Brian George, Jason Williams, George Layne, Rawle Joseph, Learie Ferguson, Khalid Rowley.
UNDER 16: Kerwin Romain, Kern Sinnette, Box-off between Ronaldo Atkinson/Corey Hagg.
