AXED UNC Senator Sadiq Baksh described action by the National Executive of the UNC Wednesday to move a vote of no-confidence in Political Leader Winston Dookeran, as a cabal that “has committed political suicide.” He sarcastically added, “May their souls rest in peace.”

Baksh made these comments at a cottage meeting chaired by Dookeran in Dow Village, California.

“They (the National Executive) were trying to impute improper motives on the part of Dookeran whom they accused of attempting to form a parallel organisation but this is madness and it must come to an end,” Baksh said.

He told the large crowd which gathered along Railway Road that the only person who could lead Trinidad and Tobago once more to prosperity is Winston Dookeran.

Former Opposition Chief Whip Ganga Singh told the gathering that the UNC Executive was violating the party’s constitution in that they held positions in the Secretariat while being Members of Parliament, and for this, they should all resign.

He said deputy leader Jack Warner was quoted as saying he was approached three weeks ago to take over as Leader of the Opposition. “But it is an established fact that there is already a leader unless there are ulterior motives in what Jack said,” Singh said.

He also chastised the Executive for undermining the party’s chances at the next General Elections with their negative attitude against the Political Leader. “Whatever decision they took in attempting to remove him, has the reverse effect of catapulting him into prominence in the eyes of the right thinking population,” Singh said.

He added that the executive was hell-bent on removing Dookeran, “the party’s only hope for victory,” because they wanted to get power.
