Preserve democracy in TT

In countries where democracy prevails any major changes, not included in a manifesto, must be presented to the populace for direct decision. If a democratic country wants to change to driving on the right instead of the left, or if there is a desire to change the existing currency to an international currency the government goes to the public with a referendum. To change the process of governance from a prime minister to an executive president is not a decision of a selected/elected member representing a constituency for a five-year period to make.

Any constitution changes are a matter for major public inputs and consultations.

It appears that existing MPs have notions alien to the purpose of their existence. The divine rights of emperors seem to be the order of the day.

The voting public must once more assert their rightful position and demand of their servants that they conform to the aspirations of the nation or pay the consequences.

The people of Trinidad and Tobago will not be won with election handouts to be betrayed by empty promises for the ensuing four years or until the next election. Make the Almighty preserve our democracy in Trinidad and Tobago.
