Boy, 9, drowns over weekend
The body of Jerriel Fraser was found washed ashore at about 3 pm yesterday near his home at Dades Trace. Fraser’s body was discovered by a neighbour. Police reports stated Fraser was with two friends on Sunday afternoon when they decided to go to the river for a swim.
Reports stated the boys went bathing by the river whose water had risen considerably because of a heavy downpour. The youngster reportedly fell into the river and was swept away by strong currents despite his friends’ frantic effort to try and rescue him.
Fraser’s mother, Lystra, made a report to the Rio Claro police and officers went to the river and joined the search. After the youngster’s body was found, it was ordered removed from the scene by District Medical Officer Dr Rampaul.
The body was taken to the Sangre Grande Mortuary where an autopsy will be carried out today. Rio Claro police are continuing investigations.
