Malchan seeks cricket glory

Malchan has been playing cricket for the last six years and is now an all-rounder with the Queen’s Park Cricket Club where he currently plays in the club’s Under-19 Cricket Team. He will soon be flying to Barbados to take part in the Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools’ Cricket Tournament. This year, for the third time, he will be attending the competition, which will be held from July 5 to 26.

He has participated in this event twice before and he always looks forward to the tournament as it helps him to gain exposure and experience.

“Most West Indies players went through this tournament and look where they are now. I get to meet different coaches and players and generally improve my cricketing skills as a result,” Malchan said

This past-pupil of Tranquillity Government Secondary School said he has performed well this January to July cricket season — batting and scoring five half-centuries for Queen’s Park Cricket Club. Malchan is a left-handed batsman, a medium-paced bowler and usually fields in the covers and the slips. At the moment, he is working to perfect his techniques with his coach David Furlonge by training six days a week — including on game days.

He was also a member of the Micro-Anand’s Electrical First League and the Santa Cruz Cricket Club and has won many Man-of-the-Match trophies in his budding cricket career.
