Lotto scam on the Internet

My mother received this letter in the mail telling her that she had won a huge sum of US money in the lotto. The sender requested that she contact them and verify her identity which she did by sending them a copy of her ID card. They claimed yes it was she and she had indeed won. She was now asked to send six hundred pounds through Western Union money transfer for them to send the cheque to her. They claimed their personnel had to accompany the cheque to her and return to their company with her signature hence the sum quoted.

After checking with the relevant Embassy and also the internet, I found that this was indeed a common scam. And that persons have indeed sent money to these individuals and have received nothing in return. The authorities are doing nothing about this and the cycle continues. I am in the process of reporting this to the relevant UK authorities and I am asking anyone who has received such letter and/or sent money to please contact us at 765-5559. Maybe together we can help it from happening to another individual.
