185 athletes for CAC Games

Fifty-eight officials and ten medical personnel will join the touring party, who will leave for South America on Monday. And Dr Ian Hypolite, the vice-president of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC), will serve as the chef-de-mission.

Bovell, bronze medallist at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens who missed the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia earlier this year due to injury, will be eyeing a gold medal in his specialty — the 200-metre individual medley.

Scott (hammer-throws), third at the Commonwealth Games and Daniel (rifle-shooting) will be looking to add CAC gold medals to the TT bag.

And Abraham, dominant in the track cycling circuit here in Trinidad will also be in contention during the two-week long competition in Colombia.

Dexter St Louis and his step-daughter Rheann Chung are among the table-tennis medal contenders, while veterans Cheryl-Ann Sankar and Shane Stone will compete in taekwondo and table tennis respectively.

And, in the hockey squads, Stacey Sui Butt and Kwandwane Browne are the major players who will head the local challenge.

But top 100-metre sprinters Marc Burns and Darrel Brown will not be making the trip to Colombia.

According to TTOC president Larry Romany, the duo gave assurances that they will be making themselves available for the competition.

“We have discussed the matter and there is a clearer understanding going forward,” said Romany. “There is no contention. The matter is now behind us.

“In my view, Marc and Darrel, given the choice, will always put country first,” Romany continued. “But the truth of the matter is that their managers sets out their schedule.”
