Sims: I have no regrets about giving up US citizenship

At a news conference last week, Sims, who launched his party in New York, where he has been living, announced that he was giving up his US citizenship to enter local politics.

Sims told Sunday Newsday that he felt a merger was the only way to get the PNM out of power. He said he has received calls from many Trinidadians around the world congratulating him on this development, and also calling on embattled UNC leader Winston Dookeran to join with the new coalition.

Sims said he had no regrets about giving up his US citizenship. Sims emigrated to the US almost 40 years ago, and runs a successful chain of delis.

He said he thinks that his timing is right to return to Trinidad and Tobago “and help the people here, because under the PNM everything is going downhill.”
