Kenisha a hot pick for Miss Universe
Kenisha is already in Los Angeles, California, preparing for the pageant which comes off at the world famous Shrine Auditorium on July 23. The top pick for the title is currently Miss Bolivia Desiree Duran, followed by Miss Ghana Angela Asare and Miss Mexico Priscilla Perales.
Kenisha, 22, an accounting technician, is seeking to follow in the footsteps of previous TT titleholders Penny Commissiong (Miss Universe 1977) and Wendy Fitzwilliam (Miss Universe 1998).
Peter Elias, Miss Universe’s national director for Trinidad and Tobago, who is preparing Kenisha for a major international beauty pageant for the second time, said: “Her approach this time is again focused and totally dedicated to the task at hand, never losing her almost childlike sweetness that makes her so likeable.
“Though it’s important for a representative to be beautiful, fun and charming; appearing serene and being able to have an awareness and opinion on international current affairs make for a more complete young woman.
“Like others we’ve worked with, Kenisha has become our daughter so-to-speak, which makes the task more endearing and meaningful to us.”
Kenisha is among 85 of the world’s most beautiful women who have started arriving in Los Angeles to participate in a number of pre-competition activities including the annual charity auction, fashion show, candlelight vigil and national costume competition.
The preliminary competition, where all contestants will compete in swimsuits and evening gowns takes place on July 18.
This is the second time Los Angeles is hosting the pageant. The first time was in 1990 when the finals took place on April 15 at the Century City Convention Centre. The winner on that occasion was Norway’s Mona Grudt.
The pageant is being hosted by the Miss Universe Organisation, a Donald J Trump and National Broadcasting Company, Inc (NBC) Partnership. Titleholders have gone on to high-profile careers in government, engineering, business, finance, genetic research, broadcasting, publishing, film and television.
