Pro League big guns ready to fire

San Juan Jabloteh, Joe Public, W Connection, North East Stars and Caledonia AIA Fire are all jostling for positions at the top of the table.

Leaders Joe Public who are only ahead of Jabloteh on goal difference (both teams on 23 points each), will be aiming to maintain their lead.

The Eastern Lions coach Michael Mc Commie says everything is in place for a positive return after the World Cup break.

“We have been in training consistently over the break, the players just got a week off during the World Cup so everybody is fit and rearing to go. We are fortunate we have no injury concerns at this time,” said McComie.

“We will be hoping to inject further life in our system of play, and there is a strong possibility we will have as much as four strikers on the field at one time, as we want to continue playing attacking and attractive football,” he said.

“We want to stay on top, the season is still young and there is a lot of football to be played so in our first match after the break against Caledonia, we will be looking immediately for a positive result, and the players are extra eager to go out and beat Caledonia — because they have defeated us twice this season so far.”

Jamal Shabbazz is not overly concerned however and has big ambitions for his Caledonia AIA team when the action resumes tomorrow.

“We are currently in mid table and I think now is the time for us to make our move up the standings, and what better way than with another win over Joe Public,” he said.

The Caledonia coach admitted he is missing a couple key players, with influential midfielder Conrad Smith away on a trial, and Nigel Pierre just back from the USA and is a bit rusty.

“We will always be ready to beat Joe Public, even if we wake up late,” Shabazz said.

As for Jabloteh, coached by Englishman Terry Fenwick, is also eager to get back in the swing of things.

He told ttproleague.com: “We are ready, at this time we are happy to welcome back our World Cup stars, and I am just trying to get them back in shape and back in focus.

“We are going to be coming strong, not only with our World Cup trio back but young striker Jason Marcano has fully recovered from his broken arm and we may also be welcoming back the fleet-footed Kerry Noray.”

Defending champions W Connection will be coming back after the break with a lot too prove after they fell behind somewhat dropping some crucial points.

The Savonetta Boys find themselves in fourth place on the standings.

But club owner David John Williams, says things are shaping up nicely as far as he is concerned, he informed ttproleague.com, “We really never took a break — we continued training and working hard, we played as many practice matches as we could in order to try and keep the guys sharp,” he said.

“World Cup player David Atiba Charles is back in training, after his trip with the national team and we are glad to have him back. “Of course Jose Luis Seabra is out for the entire season and William Da Silva Oliviera headed back to Brazil for family reasons and he will be out for two weeks.

“But the rest of the team looks sharp and we are ready and excited to get the season restarted,” John-Wiliams said.

The W Connection boss, is not too worried that his team is behind Joe Public, Jabloteh and North East Stars.

“It’s early days still, and we are only four points adrift.

No one has a run away lead. We are still very much in the race,” he said.

The League resumes tomorrow with the 11th round of action.
