Senate sits it out

A Joint Select Committee of Parliament will meet tomorrow in the auditorium of the San Fernando City Corporation.

The committee, chaired by Independent Senator, Professor Ramesh Deosaran, will meet with San Fernando Mayor, Ian Atherly, the Chief Executive Officer, and other officials, to discuss the corporation’s 2003 to 2004 annual report.

On July 13 the Public Accounts Enterprises Committee, chaired by UNC Senator, Wade Mark, will meet at 10.30 am at the Parliament’s chamber.

On July 14, there will be a sitting of the House of Representatives at 1.30 pm. On the Order Paper is the Financial Institutions Amendment Bill, which already went to the Senate and is before the House for passage.

Time permitting, members of the Lower House may also deal with the Caribbean Examinations Council, the Privileges and Immunities Bill 2006, and the Caribbean Court of Justice Trust Fund Bill.

Also, tomorrow, over a period of three to four days, Parliament will receive a delegation of parliamentarians from Australia, led by the Honourable Paul Henry Calvert, the Senate President from that country.

TT’s Speaker of the House, Barry Sinanan, and President of the Senate, Rawle Titus, will host the foreign parliamentarians. The Australians have expressed a desire to visit the ALNG plant in Point Fortin, and the Caroni Bird Sanctuary, Newsday was told.

There will be photographic opportunities for the media tomorrow at 6.15 pm at the Australian High Commissioner’s residence.

On July 14, the Australian parliamentarians will be going to dinner at Il Colosseo Restaurant on Rust Street, St Clair. They will be hosted by Titus.
