Pulse8 Carnival
Pulse8 Carnival, the replacement mas outfit for the Poison band held a media launch at the Federation Park home of its bandleader Meg Cheekes on Tuesday.
In delivering the feature address at the launch, Cheekes explained that the figure 8 represents the eight-member groups, formally of Poison, that came together to form the new outfit. Those groups are Cheek 2 Cheek, Cat & Friends, Funsation 4, ‘D’ Coco Crew, La Dolce Vita, DJ Wendell, Sonia Marcano, Dalven Harris, ‘D’ Image TnT and Ulric Miller.
Cheekes also said that Pulse8 Carnival was formed to deliver and improve the Poison experience, with a more manageable size, while maintaining the heartbeat of Poison which was enjoyed over the years.
She described the new band as an all-inclusive resort on the move, given that the entire band will be all-inclusive, complete with leisure vehicles, live artistes, pulsating DJ music and a time out to be taken for lunch. Their motto? More mas, more fun.
Cheekes then asked Poison’s bandleader, Michael Headley to mount the stage where she then presented him with a bag of goodies in appreciation for all he had done for them, then asked him to be her special guest for Carnival In 2007. Cheekes then raised a toast to the changing of the guards.
Next year Pulse8 will be portraying “Cocktails” in the large band category, with 14 sections of approximately 250 persons each. Some of the designers are Sonia Marcano, Joanne Fox, Tracey Julien, Natalie Black, Pat Mesnage, Jennifer Mc Intosh and well known designer Peter Elias.
At Tuesday’s function a sneak preview of three costumes was given to guests depicting “Rum Sweet Rum”, “Blue Lagoon” and Anti Freeze”.
The band itself will be launched August 27 at a venue to be announced and masqueraders will be able to get their tickets at the new bandhouse at 6 Gallus Street in Woodbrook.
