Killer landslide victims cremated

Both dressed in white, Reena Lisa Narinesingh and her son Christian Rashard Pierre, 10 months, were placed in one coffin, while Reena’s sister Vidya Dianne Narinesingh was in another coffin.

A brief service was held at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church at Maraval at about 8.30 am. The bodies were then taken to the crematorium for the final rites.

At the brief service yesterday, the bodies were blessed which was accompanied by an opening prayer and hymn. The mourners were told to cherish the memories they had of Reena, Christian, and Vidya during the short time they spent on earth.

The three were killed on Monday night while travelling in a car which was taking them to their home at Grand Fonde Road, Maracas Bay at about 6.30 pm, driven by their brother Sunil Narinesingh.

Narinesingh was driving along the North Coast Road and as he neared the Maracas lookout a huge tree crashed onto the car, uprooted in a landslide after heavy rainfall.

Reena, Christian and Vidya died from injuries. Sunil and another sister Hema escaped death and are warded at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Officers of the Maracas Bay Police Station are investigating.
