Meiling to present collection at Kapok

On Tuesday, the terrace will be transformed into a flurry of fashion and beauty with top models profiling in Meiling’s Collection - Resort 06.

Proceeds of show will be given to charity again this year. Last year, as part of its 35th anniversary commemorative activities, Kapok hosted a very successful fashion show in collaboration with Meiling.

Through the proceeds from that show, as well as Kapok’s own staff fund raising drive, $35,000 was donated to Amica House in Curepe.

The money was used to purchase computers and related equipment for the children’s study room. That effort was in keeping with Kapok’s commitment to support children-centred developmental and educational activities.

This year the Cotton Tree Foundation will be the beneficiary of the Kapok and Meiling’s joint venture. Established in 1993, Foundation’s mission is to improve life chances for the members of the community of St Ann’s and environs through internal and external reciprocal partnerships.

Some of the Foundation’s achievements include: the preschool established in 2001, providing high quality early childhood education opportunities to preschoolers for a minimal fee.

Home Work Club was established in 2001 to support children between ages of seven to 14 in homework, remedial literacy and numeracy.

A Toy Lending Library was also set up as part of its outreach programme.

The foundation has established a library to make toys and books available for children from two to 13 years and their families to encourage parent-child interaction.
