‘Paisa-It’s All About the Money’

The script depicts the metropolitan modern reality that we live in, where materialism and greed transcend most aspects of life. Paisa - It’s All About the Money stars Ena Maraj, Mohip Poonwasie, Jenniffer Ramdhan, Balraj Harry, Jaishree Jagidhar, Sherene Sadia (former Miss India TnT), Shane Sookdeo, Vishal Persad, Rajiv Singh, Bavina Sookdeo, Nisha Maraj, Sabrina Bissessarsingh, Martin Sahadath, Kevin Ramsawaksingh, Mala Ramkissoon, and Lisa Samlal.

Paisa is a saga of those caught in greed and those holding on to faith in a bashful world. The play written by Seeta Persad revolves around ‘Reshma’ and ‘Judy’.

As the story unfolds, Reshma (played by Seeta Persad) is seen in jail charged with the murder of her husband Moonir Baldath. Reshma spent a lifetime building a business with her husband while surviving poverty, infidelity and a difficult husband. Just as she begins to look into a bright future everything falls apart. Reshma finds herself behind bars for a crime she did not commit.

Judy (played by Sherene Sadia) came from humble beginning and landed in the midst of a lot of money. Judy is married to Harry but is having an affair with Moonir. She finds refuge in alcohol and when her relationship between herself and Moonir falls apart she finds herself in deep depression. Her life is shattered as she cannot not keep apace with the high standard of life she once was accustomed to.

Unable to adjust to the city and forever failing to meet expectations of her idealistic husband Harry, she finds herself trapped.

Harry, (played by Balraj Harry) on the other hand, is a man of principles and character. Caught in a loveless marriage, he carries the burden of an alcoholic as well as unfaithful wife. He wakes up one day to realise that the only woman he truly loves is behind bars.

Paisa encompasses drama, comedy, music, and dance and depicts the lives of personalities we can relate to. There are scenes that can make you cry, laugh and understand the seduction of greed and how the lust for money can lead to murder and much more.

Ena together with Mohip will be doing the songs for the play.

The play will be staged at the Creative Arts Centre San Fernando on August 18 at 7.15 pm. The production will then go to the Divali Nagar Site on August 25 at 7.15 pm.

Five-time winner of the ‘Best Actor Award’ in the Prime Minister Best Village competition, Hubert Ramlal is directing Paisa. Critics say that Ramlal’s input in this production will propel it to a success.
