Celebrating Bahamas Independence

When Newsday arrived at the reception the String Quartet, who had only received the score that morning, were still practising the Bahamian National Anthem so that we, and two other early birds were shown into the television room until more guests made their way through the rain.

Near continuous thunder and lighting provided a dramatic backdrop for the reception on the gallery and reception room while the rains lashed down and, at one point, the String Quartet played part of Handel’s Water Music.

In a brief speech Honorary Consul Dr Davis thanked her guests for braving the elements to attend the celebration, and the St Augustine String Quartet for an excellent performance of the Bahamian National Anthem.

Efebo Wilkinson deputising for Foreign Minister Knowlson Gift read the Minister’s prepared speech of congratulations to the people of the Bahamas on the 33rd anniversary of Independence. The speech referred to the high standards attained by Bahamian athletes and ended by proposing a toast of continued friendship between TT and The Bahamas.
