‘Board of Directors’ should pack up

Failure to perform competently, efficiently and in the best interest of the shareholders who elected them to office or for any acts of dishonesty or misspending of company funds, usually ends in swift termination of their duties as chairman or board member and may well lead to legal action being taken against the individual concerned who, may be made to make restitution by a court of law if found guilty.

In the governance of the interest of the citizens of a country who appoint them to manage their affairs however, this is by no means the case.

At every general election the citizens of this country vote for a particular individual based on party affiliation which is directly influenced by the ethnic orientation of the party in question and the distinct possibility of gaining the required quantity of votes to be successful at the election.

Experience, capability, managerial skill and other essential components for good and sound productive and economical operation is nowhere on the list of desirable requirements, nor are honesty or integrity considered as a desirable asset.

The decision-making body (board of directors) consists of a group of individuals of questionable experience and capability in the matters that they are called upon to discuss or adjudicate behind closed doors and in secret, frequently in agreement with the wishes of the chairman (prime minister) and with no consultation or input from the citizens whom they claim to represent.

When you have members of Cabinet agreeing to demolish a perfectly good and sound structure that is fully equipped with every possible convenience to make way for the construction of a $40 million edifice for the Prime Minister to reside in, spending $2 million in the distribution of jerseys, flags and other paraphernalia by the truckload free of charge to the citizens in order to support our National Football team and exhausting a budget of $38 billion with no accountability whatever in the space of twelve months, while the entire infrastructure of the country is in shambles and a large segment of the population is existing in abject poverty and under totally unacceptable conditions, it is my personal view that the entire board of management should be sent packing lock, stock and barrel and a new board of management installed forthwith.
