Yorke not ready to give up

This could be gleaned from recent statements from the Sydney, Australia star striker following his outstanding performance with the Soca warriors at the recent World Cup Finals in Germany.

Following Russell Latapy’s decision to put away the national jersey, speculation was rife that Yorke would sign off on the Soca Warriors.

However the Tobago-born is now comparing himself to Teddy Sherringham who, though no longer wearing the England colours, continues to play for West Ham at age 40.

This fits in nicely with Yorke’s commitment to fitness and fans can expect to see him playing on the international stage for some time in the future.

“I try to always keep myself as fit as possible and who knows how long this could keep me going as a player. I’ve had a long spell and I have enjoyed every moment of it.

“Leading my country to the World Cup has undoubtedly been the proudest moment for me. There’s not much more a player can ask for especially at my age and seeing what we were able to achieve,” Yorke said recently.

Yorke said he’s in great shape at the moment and sees another couple of years in the game.

“Teddy Sheringham, a great friend, gives us all inspiration. After that, I will start looking at coaching, perhaps,” he told the Sydney Herald this week.

Yorke had also been in extensive conversation with Latapy, Shaka Hislop, Stern John and other members of the TT team during the latter stages of the team’s stay in Germany.

They discussed the future of TT football and their involvement in a management capacity or as players.
