3 murders mar weekend

In one incident, two friends were gunned down on Sunday while liming in Morvant while in the other incident, a man was shot dead inside his Champs Fleurs apartment by three men who found him hiding at the side of a fridge.

The double murder took place at about 7.10 pm on Sunday when Daniel Raymond, 25, and his friend Peter Moore, 22, were sitting in the driveway of Raymond’s Second Caledonia, Morvant home.

According to reports a car with three occupants pulled alongside the two men and gunshots were fired, killing Raymond and Moore instantly. The gunmen then sped off. Residents who heard the gunshots, telephoned the Morvant police who arrived on the scene to find the two men dead in the driveway. The District Medical Officer was summoned and after he viewed the bodies, they were ordered removed to the Forensic Sciences Centre where autopsies were to have been carried out yesterday.

Karen Raymond said her brother was shot in the left leg three weeks ago in Morvant. She added that her brother was also threatened but she never expected that the threats would end in murder. The grieving woman also stoutly denied suggestions that her brother was a gangster or was involved in a life of crime. Police said they have established no motive for the double-slaying.

In the other incident, at about 2 am yesterday, URP worker Shimba Simon, 23, was awakened from sleep at his Spring Valley Road, Mt D’Or Road, Champs Fleurs apartment by shouts of “Police, Police.” Three men broke down the bedroom door and demanded that Simon’s girlfriend Faize tell them where he was. The frightened woman said he was not at home. The intruders who later searched the apartment, found Simon hiding at the side of a fridge and shot him several times. A report was made to the St Joseph Police and officers arrived on the scene. Police sources told Newsday that while they have no official lead in Simon’s murder, they strongly believe it was a case of revenge. Up to late yesterday, no arrests were made in the three murders and Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing investigations.
