The amazing Basdeo Panday

I am so fed up of the roller coaster rides he takes the UNC supporters on.

One morning we have to love this one and hate that one.

Then tomorrow, he will decide he hates the one he loved yesterday and hates the other, and so it goes.

Here is the man who presided over and led the way in attacking anything remotely connected to Winston Dookeran.

He took a personal interest in firing Robin Montano, a Senator who took licks left right and centre for the UNC.

I recall walking with Mr Montano in the UNC crime march a couple years ago.

Mr Panday showed them how to deal with people who wanted to expand the party in a meaningful way.

One recalls that when Panday wanted to make the UNC more inclusive, he ignored the views of Trevor, Ramesh and Ralph and brought in Carlos and anyone else, left right and centre.

What about Carolyn and Saddiq? One minute Saddiq traipsing all over Laventille looking for votes and the next, Saddiq is the enemy.

When Panday was on the platform digging deep into Ramesh and company, not a man said “oh God Bas, please keep quiet, we might want them back.”

In 1986, both he and Ramesh pounded the then NAR Dookeran in favour of Hulsie Bhaggan.

Then, when Hulsie rocked the boat, she got a healthy serving of Panday licks.

Then, unimaginably after time in the wilderness, the UNC returned Dookeran to the Chaguanas seat.

You woudn’t know how to spell unity, if we gave you four out of the five letters.
