Atherly visits grieving family

A sombre-looking Atherly told Chatoor’s weeping daughter Tara that he felt compelled to visit the family, on learning of the elderly man’s death. “My heart goes out to you and the rest of the family,” Atherly told Chatoor’s daughter.

Atherly has been a caretaker mayor for the past week until a replacement is sworn in. He decided not to run for a second term as mayor of the southern city.

San Fernando businessman Kenneth Ferguson is expected to take over the mayoral chain from Atherly today. Chatoor died at hospital after he was warded following the robbery incident at his home on July 6, where he was shot in the chest by one of two burglars who forced their way into his home.

Chatoor was well-known in the San Fernando area since his family operated a burger cart.
