From Ghana to TT,

For eight years, before opening “AA and M” in November of 2002, Mawusi, who is a Rastafarian, used to sell his goods on the streets of Chaguanas. To him, his store is a great achievement and he is very proud of how far he has come.

“Everything in the store, except the slippers which are imported from Guyana comes from Ghana,” he said. He personally travels to Ghana to choose his products.

“I feel like I’m home when in Ghana and I want to bring a piece of my home and culture to my brothers and sisters here in Trinidad,” he said.

Mawusi also sells incence, oils, T-shirts and handbags. He hopes to open another store where he will sell all African craft, drums, books etc. “Customers also came in and asked me to start stocking the various spiritual oils. That is something I am going to do very soon. I already stock body oils and perfume oils for vehicles, homes and clothing,” he said. Mawusi whose store is located on the ground floor of Adams Bazaar, Chaguanas, takes orders for customers who wish to import goods using his services.

“If a client wants something specific, I will take the order and get it for him,” he revealed.

The price of the clothing in Mawusi’s store ranges from $300 and $3000. All the clothing is made out of cloth weaved by the Damas tribe.
