Truck driver cheats death

Reports revealed that around midday, Ali who is an employee of Sugars Transport, was travelling west along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, when on reaching the traffic light in the vicinity of BWIA Boulevard at the Piarco, his truck skidded and collided with the island of the roadway causing the vehicle to overturn. Ali was pinned inside the vehicle. Motorists who witnessed the accident rushed to the assistance of the injured man and eventually freed him.

Emergency Health workers were contacted but they reportedly took close to 45 minutes to arrive on the scene as Ali complained of pains to the chest.

He was treated at the scene and then taken by ambulance to the Arima Hospital. Checks yesterday revealed that Ali was in stable condition.

The overturned trailer truck was removed from the roadway by a wrecker. Officers of the Piarco Police Station are investigating.
