Suicidal driving habits

Not all youths are irresponsible drivers. Many are just victims of people’s mistakes. The Eastern Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service held a Road Safety Campaign at the Riverside Complex, Foster Road, Sangre Grande in the later part of 2004. The campaign extended through a week of activities that included demonstrations, lectures and videos highlighting accidents and some of the factors associated with them.

The week of activities was a success as school children and members of the public flooded the Complex excited to get hands-on information on road safety. Such activities should take place annually. Some drivers are also ignorant to road signs and the highway code. There are too many vehicles on the roads daily, and it would seem anybody can get a driver’s license these days. The conditions of the roads in TT alone can cause major accidents. Motorists in order to avoid “pot holes” swerve and run into other vehicles. I often wonder how an island with its own natural resources can have such terrible roads. Politicians here are well known for the swift repaving of roads or executing a quick fix to problems election time.
