Phoenix spoil Police record

The result ended Police’s 100-percent record in the 2006 season, but the lawmen stayed top of the standings as Club TSTT, who could have taken the lead with a win against Robby’s Engin-eering Couva Players United, had their match cancelled due to a waterlogged outfield at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

But Police only had themselves to blame for not widening the gap between themselves and the chasing pack, as they twice relinquished the lead against the hosts.

Ex-Trinidad and Tobago Under-20 striker Christopher Sam put the lawmen in front after eight minutes but Kerr equalised in the 11th.

Kurt Danclair restored Police’s lead in the 20th before Shelton Williams tied the scores at 2-2 two minutes later.

Trevor Henry got a crucial item in the 43rd for Phoenix and Kerr sealed the win for the hosts in the 47th.

WASA FC moved to second spot on the 10-team table after trouncing PLIPDECO Caroni 3-0 at WASA Ground, St Joseph. Darin Lewis (18th), Marvin Joseph (25th) and Keston Thomas (70th) were the players on target for the home side.

Defence Force registered their first win of the season, by a 2-1 margin against House of Dread FC at the El Dorado Senior Comprehensive Ground.

Former TT Under-17 midfielder Sterling O’Brian netted a double, in the 51st and 68th, while Kevin Baptiste pulled one back for House of Dread in the 85th.

Marlon Warner also scored a pair to guide Crab Connection to a 3-1 victory over M&M Harvard at the San Juan Senior Comprehensive Ground.

Warner opened the scoring in the first minute and got his second in the 35th, as he was found, unmarked in the penalty box by left-back Sheldon Thomas and planted his header past Harvard goalkeeper Nasif Joefield.

Warner was always in the thick of things, and had a hand in Crab’s third goal in the 77th. The captain’s left-sided cross was blocked by the defence, but substitute striker Brian Wallace collected the rebound and smashed his volley past the stranded keeper.

Harvard’s Christon Freitas capitalised on a complacent Crab’s defence, placing his header beyond goalie Achim Persue in the 79th, but there was no way back for Harvard.
