Cudjoe: TT still at mercy of white man

Cudjoe made the remarks at the Sixth Annual Emancipation Dinner and Awards Ceremony, Centre of Excellence on Monday evening. Guests at the dinner included, President George Maxwell Richards and wife Dr Jean Ramjohn-Richards, Prime Minister Patrick Manning and wife, Senator Hazel Manning, Nigerian High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago Edward Arthur and his wife Alice Arthur.

In his address, Cudjoe referred to the continuing controversy surrounding Chief Justice Satnarine Sharma, stating that a headline of a daily newspaper which read, “Privy Council on Standby,” was a reminder that Trinidadians still depended on the “white society” for advice and guidance, on matters of importance.

He said successful black business persons and professionals, had a responsibility to contribute to the elevation and advancement of other Africans.

The professor said, as the nation proceeded into the future, “we must opt for genuine equity in TT both in public and private sectors.”

He added that, “it should never be said that our Government participated in the achievement and dominance of the Indo-Trinbagonians at the expense of Africans and other groups in the nation.”
