Gymnast Williams in Cuba contest

Williams is once again the only gymnast in Trinidad and Tobago fulfilling the requirements for the prestigious event.

Last year she got a silver medal on the un-even bars in the competition which was held in Mexico.

This year the competition will be even more difficult with the introduction of the new Code of Points by the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG).

Williams will be up against the region’s top gymnasts from Cuba, The United States, Guatemala, Equador, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Peru, Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela.

She is accompanied by coaches Clifton McDowell and Deborah Garcia.

After competing in Cuba, Williams will then participate in an Athletic/Coaches Clinic being held at American Twisters Gym in Florida, USA.

She has been selected as one of the “demonstrators” for this event.

McDowell and Garcia will also be attending this clinic.

Williams will stay on in Florida for advanced training with McDowell and former US national coach Tim Rand.

Williams is expected to return to Trinidad on August 12.
