Alcoa: We were not invited to JSC

Overbey made the disclosure in a letter addressed to Independent Senator, Mary King, who chaired the JSC before which representatives from Government and several State-owned energy based industries appeared. He also sent a copy of the letter to Clerk of Committees, Lily Broomes.

At the JSC, King had said that Overbey was requested to attend but did not appear. She had warned that persons ordered to appear before a JSC who failed to attend could be hauled before the committee for contempt.

However, Overbey claimed he checked with his offices at Knoxville, Tennessee, Alcoa Trinidad, and the Chaguaramas Alcoa Steamship Company, but there was no invitation to attend a JSC.

He said Peter Bell, station manager of Alcoa Steamship, got a call on August 2 from a female purporting to be from the Red House. She asked for Overbey but was told he was out of the country.

Overbey said the caller did not say that a JSC was being convened at that time and did not request that a representative from Alcoa attend.
