DJ competition gets going today
At the launch at the Marriott Courtyard recently officials of the competition and Heineken briefed the local DJs on the rules and regulations.
The semis will be taped on August 12th while the finals come off on September 23.
DJs were asked to submit a recording of their mix from three of the following genres of music: East Indian, soca/calypso, rave/techno, house, Latin influenced music, R&B/hip hop, reggae/dancehall, zouk, reggaeton and rock.
A panel of judges reviewed the entries and selected the 20 finalists for today’s preliminaries from which the champion of the local leg will eventually be selected.
The 20 finalists are Anarchy Sounds, Bassline Entertainment, Daddy Ritchie, DJ Carbon, DJ Kamau, DJ Pun, Eternal Seige, Funk Master K, Intellect, Jah Kidz, Jase-Fire Playaz, Mad Man Ghany, Master Mix Brian, Memphis, Notorious Triple S, Sir, Skelly, Stephen the Syndicate, Ultimate Musically Extreme and Young Simmo.
The championship will run for six weeks where the DJs will perform before a live audience and will be recorded by Synergy TV for broadcast. Synergy TV is inviting the public to participate in today’s live recording at its Tragarete Road, St James studio.
The finalists will be judged on music selection, cross-over mixing, crowd response, on mic response, maximum set time limit and bonus points will be allotted if the judges feel that the DJ performed exceptionally well.
Four DJ’s will do battle in the semi finals and only two will qualify to participate in the finals.
The champion of the Heineken Green Synergy DJ Competition will go on to represent this country against his Caribbean counterparts from Antigua, Anguilla, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Curacao, Dominica, French Guyana, Guade-loupe, Guyana, Grenada, Jamaica, Martinique, St Kitts, St Marten, St Lucia, St Vincent and US Virgin Islands. This event will come off in the Bahamas in October.
