Twins funeral today
The police are investigating the twins’ drowning, and are seeking instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) office.
The twins’, whose parents live in the United States, were brought to Trinidad by their grandmother who wanted to spend time with them.
According to police reports, the grandmother left the twins in the care of a six-year-old female relative at 8.15 am and left, telling the girl she would return shortly. The grandmother secured the door.
The six-year-old, the police said, took the twins to the bathroom to bathe them. However, she left the babies to answer the phone.
When she returned the twins were dead. She took the bodies out of the bathtub, dried and dressed, and attempted to feed them.
At 1:30 pm, the babysitter arrived but could not get inside. The six-year-old then told the babysitter what happened. The sitter then rushed to the nearby Valencia Health Centre where she alerted nurses.
Several men broke down the door and entered the house and found the twins’ bodies on the bed. The nurses attempted to resuscitate them but failed.
Later, family members were interviewed by the police.
An autopsy revealed that the twins had drowned.
