Magistrate holds court with generator

In her usually pleasant but no-nonsense attitude, Quinlan displayed efficiency and effectiveness in dealing with matters in both the 4B and tenth courts, while all other courts were not in operation, even though power was available through the generator.

Appearing before Quinlan in the tenth court, Neville Smith was charged with the trafficking of marijuana. Smith was held and arrested by PC Omari Danglade on August 4, on Henry Street, Port-of-Spain. Two bags of marijuana, one containing 17 packets, the other 107 packets, were seized. The marijuana weighed 190 grammes.

Sgt Prospect represented the State, while Smith was defended by attorney Patrick Godson-Phillip, who was able to secure bail of $150,000 with a surety to be approved by a clerk of the peace. Hearing will resume on August 17.

Also appearing was Sherwin Alleyne, charged for possession of marijuana.

Alleyne was held in Laventille by PC George on August 5, with 49 packets of compressed marijuana weighing 655 grammes. Prosecuted by Sgt Prospect, Alleyne was granted bail in the sum of $170,000 with a surety. Hearing will resume on August 17.
