Kidnapped student escapes

The girl walked to the San Juan Fire Station where she told officers who she was and asked that her mother Emily Delpino be contacted. She was taken to a doctor where she was medically examined and then taken to her Meade Street, Tunapuna home.

Yesterday, she spent several hours at the office of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) at the Port-of-Spain CID where she gave a statement to investigators.

Police reports revealed that about 12.30 am yesterday, the girl was being transported in a car at Saddle Road, when the vehicle stopped. The girl claimed she was left alone in the vehicle and she used the opportunity to escape.

Alexander was kidnapped last Wednesday while on her way to rent DVD movies from a store near her Tunapuna home. Her mother Emily Delpino received a telephone call from a man who demaded a $300,000 ransom for the teen’s safe release.

Alexander is the eighth person to be kidnapped for ransom this year.

The Delpinos own a suspermarket at Maracas, St Joseph. No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
