Symbols and observances
The committee’s attention should be drawn to the practice by Prime Minister Patrick Manning, his Ministers and top PNM political office holders to wear their party’s symbol while performing official duties.
This practice should cease because it sends the message that the PNM is in office only for the PNM.
While this may be so, the PNM should be told that party symbols are for party activities. It is sad that after 50 years the PNM has not been able to distinguish between party and public duties.
Perhaps the National Symbols and Observances Committee could make that distinction to assist the Prime Minister.
