Ganja in slippers, two held

The women — aged 64 and 24 — were arrested when police made the discovery when they checked items in a bag which the women asked to be given to the relative. The women were expected to be charged last night with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking — the same offence the male relative was arrested for.

According to police reports, at about 1 pm, the women went to Siparia Police Station and requested permission to hand over certain items to their relative.

Sources said one of the women handed an officer the bag which contained a pair of rubber slippers and a box of food. The lawmen carried out their customary check of the items and observed that the soles of both sides of the slippers were loose.

On closer inspection, the officers discovered the soles were hollowed out and they found a quantity of marijuana inside the slippers. PC Natasha Seales is investigating and the women are expected in court on Monday.
